MECHANICAL ENGINEER (Lancaster, Pennsylvania)

Whiting Consulting is searching for a Mechanical Engineer for our customer located in the Lancaster, P.A. area. In this position, you would be responsible for completing engineering tasks critical to new product development and maintaining our existing products. The individual will be a key participant in the Product Realization Process and contribute in a dynamic team environment. The individual is expected to perform functions independently with technical guidance from senior team members.


  • Lead development of advanced mechatronic designs including enclosures, dynamic drive systems, mechanical PCB layout and complex assembly interconnects.
  • Support System Architects and Product Managers in the development of building blocks and product roadmaps through technical input and feasibility analysis.
  • Support task manager in development of project scoping and work list creation.
  • Develop hardware prototypes and analytical simulations for design concept validation.
  • Lead DFSS initiatives to improve product performance and reliability through design reviews, FMEA’s, DFA’s and developing hardware test plans.
  • Support PQIM through evaluation of supplier capability studies of new processes.
  • Provide engineering support to resolve customer complaints and production product issues.
  • Support BOM creation and release of product documentation.
  • Create and maintain Pro/E library of components, assemblies and drawings for the Lancaster product portfolio.
  • Education

  • Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical discipline (BSME, etc.).
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience

  • Minimum: 5-10 years of experience in the field of mechanical design is required.
  • Special Skills

  • Familiarity with design of complex assemblies, injection molded and die-cast components, gear driven systems and DC motors is preferred.
  • Must have experience with 3-D CAD to create parts, assemblies and drawings (Pro/E preferred). Experience in FEA & CFD analysis is desired.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with other business disciplines.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and PC skills are required.
  • Position requires a self-motivated individual able to work in a team environment.
